We are extremely proud of all our French and Spanish graduates.  Here is a tiny sampling of some of the grads over the years who are doing interesting things in our community and abroad.

Allison ANDERSON

Allison is a graduate of the Extended French program at Malvern.

At Malvern, Allison focused on Math, Science, and Manufacturing Technology. She was also a member of the cross country, track, and ski teams, and an executive member of the Malvern Student Athletic Association. After graduating, she went on to study Mechanical Engineering and run track and cross country at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, USA. She also co-led a local children’s mentoring program and was a member of the club triathlon team. Allison graduated from Dartmouth, cum Laude, in 2020 and moved to Portland, OR, USA where she currently works as a Design Engineer at Nike, Inc. focused on Nike’s airbag shoe cushioning technology.  


Nathaniel (Nate) ERSKINE-SMITH

 Nate is a graduate of the Core French program at Malvern.


Nathaniel (Nate) Erskine-Smith is the Member of Parliament for Beaches-East York [and] has strong roots in Beaches-East York, where he was raised and has lived most of his life. Nate attended Bowmore and Malvern.

     Nate became the M.P. on October 19, 2015, after a successful grassroots open nomination in December 2014. He obtained his B.A. (Politics) and J.D. (Law) from Queen’s University, where he pitched for the varsity baseball team. After working at a large Bay Street law firm and being called to the bar, Nate obtained his B.C.L. (Master of Laws), with distinction, from the University of Oxford where he studied political philosophy and constitutional law. (https://beynate.ca/biography/)

Kyle AHLUWALIA

Kyle is a graduate of the Extended French and Spanish programs and was a founding member of the Conseil français at Malvern.

Kyle is currently the Technical Director for the Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC), a professional theatre company based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1975 by a group of professors and graduate students at Carleton University. GCTC is driven by a dream to place Canadian stories and Canadian history front and centre in our country’s universities and theatres. Kyle also currently works as a part-time professor in the Theatre department at the University of Ottawa.  Previously, he worked as the Responsable de production et tournée with the Théâtre Catapulte and was with the group when they came to Malvern in the spring of 2019 to perform the play Ceci n'est pas une lettre d'adieu.

Dr. Michaela JACQUES

Michaela is a graduate of the French Immersion program at Malvern. 

Michaela completed a B.A. at the University of Toronto in Celtic Studies and Latin. She went on to do a PhD at Harvard University in the only graduate programme in Celtic Studies in North America. She has had the opportunity to travel extensively as a presenter at conferences in Helsinki, Vienna, Dublin, Glasgow, and Los Angeles. After graduating from Harvard in May 2020, Michaela left Boston to take up a Post-doctoral Fellowship back home at the University of Toronto where she primarily does individual research, with occasional teaching work.

Tim McCONNELL

Tim is a graduate of the Extended French program at Malvern.


Tim McConnell (pictured right) is a trans-masculine person with lived experience of mental health, substance misuse and trauma.  They are the co-founder of Pieces to Pathways which is now partnered with Breakaway Health, an organization supporting individuals living with addiction. They have previously worked as a peer support worker and substance abuse counsellor at a youth residential addiction treatment facility in New Brunswick, and as a community outreach worker and workshop facilitator with several agencies in Toronto. They write extensively on trans accessibility, institutional cisgenderism and Insidious Trauma, and have presented their work at Grounding Trauma 2014 and the Canadian Conference on Child and Youth Care. Gage MUNROE

Gage is a graduate of the French immersion program at MCI.

Gage Munroe has been acting professionally since he was eight years old. In that time, he has had the good fortune to explore the many sides of the film and television industry, appearing in movies of the week, television dramas, comedies, children’s animated series, as well as short- and feature-length films. Gage has enjoyed great success as a voice actor, establishing the original role of Marshall in the beloved preschool animated series, PAW PATROL, as well as the titular role in Disney Junior’s JUSTIN TIME.  Over the years, Gage has had the opportunity to work with and learn from such esteemed actors and directors as John Hurt (Immortals), Donald Sutherland (Pirate's Passage), and Sir Patrick Stewart, Rob Reiner and Jason Reitman (Live Read of THE PRINCESS BRIDE at The Toronto International Film Festival). He is currently studying film at Ryerson's School of Image Arts. 

Robyn MURPHY

Robyn is a graduate of MCI's  Extended French program.


Robyn is a dynamic one-woman show wih her own creative production company called High Rock Productions.  She loves being a storyteller.  Whether it is an hour-long documentary for the Discovery Channel or a 3-minute online video about a new service a small business is offering, her skills enable her to tell stories that people can enjoy, relate to and learn from.

     More than a decade of producing documentary television programming – along with a Masters of Arts in Journalism degree from Western University – have given Robyn the skillset to plan, film and edit stories for people to use on their websites and social media networks.

     With three young kids, having her own business allows her to work on smaller scale projects that she can see through from conception to final delivery.

     Robyn is passionate about working with people to tell their stories and communicate their messages to their various audiences.

Emma NISHIMURA

Emma is a graduate of the Extended French program at Malvern.

Based in Toronto, Emma’s work ranges from traditional etchings, archival pigment prints, drawings, and audio pieces to art installations. Using a diversity of media, her work addresses ideas of memory and loss that are rooted within family stories and inherited narratives. Emma received her MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2013 and her BA from the University of Guelph in 2005. Her work is in public and private collections and has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Emma is currently the Chair of Photography, Printmaking and Publications at OCAD University. Previously she taught at the University of Guelph, Sheridan College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dr. Nick REED

Nick is a graduate of Malvern's Extended French program.


Nick completed his PhD and joined the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at U of T as an Associate Professor in August, 2019.  Nick is a Canada Research Chair holder in Pediatric Concussion.  Previously, Nick also worked as a Senior Clinician Scientist within the Bloorview Research Institute, Co-Director of the Concussion Centre and the Holland Family Chair in Acquired Brain Injury at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Nick remains an Adjunct Scientist within the Bloorview Research Institute at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.  

   Nick has garnered several awards including the 2014 Special Recognition Award and the 2016 Prevention Award from Brain Injury Canada, the 2015 Dr. Pashby Sports Safety Award, the 2016 International Association of Business Communications Gold Quill Award of Merit, the 2018 Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (University of Toronto) Rising Star Alumni Award, and was nominated for 2019 Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.  Most notably, in 2020, Nick was named Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Pediatric Concussion.

Chris STUDER

Chris is a graduate of the French Immersion program at Malvern.

Chris is one of the founding members of Get REAL, a mentorship program working to support the LGBTQ+ communities and to sensitize youth about racism. He found he had an ability to get through to kids who reminded him of himself at a younger age by sharing his own experiences of friends coming out to him, embracing his own differences, and learning from others to be a supportive friend. He oversees many aspects in the Get REAL movement including fundraising, sponsorship, social media, web development, merchandise, new partnerships, events, and the university chapter program.  

He is one of the lead speakers at the organization, having spoken everywhere from Ted X Youth, to to 20,000 youth at We Day Toronto. 

Born in Lima, Perú, Chris currently lives in Toronto and loves playing drums, listening to podcasts, reading biographies, and consulting with younger organizations looking to make an impact on the world.
