INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLAN
The academic resource centre is mostly for students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The IEP is a legal document that outlines how you learn best and what accomodations you are entitled to. It is very important that you are familiar with your IEP, your exceptionality, learning strategies and accommodations.
Students and parents will be given opportunities to contribute to the IEP writing process when the IEPs go home. Student environmental/ instructional and assessment accommodations will begin from the first day of school.
ACCOMMODATIONS
are specialized teaching and assessment strategies that may include individualized equipment, technology and environmental adjustments required by the student to access learning material and demonstrate learning.
Accommodations allow the student to participate in learning without any changes to the knowledge and skills the student is expected to demonstrate.
Accommodations listed on the IEP are categorized as follows:
INSTRUCTIONAL: adjustments in teaching strategies including styles of presentations, methods of organization, or use of technology.
ENVIRONMENTAL: changes or supports in the physical environment, such as preferential seating or special lighting.
ASSESSMENT: adjustments in the methods required for the student to demonstrate learning such as allowing additional time to complete tests or assignments or permitting oral responses to tests.
Please make sure that you are looking at your IEP and advocating for your needs.
