ASD Program
Stephen Leacock also has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Intensive Support Program (ISP) for students who are placed through the IPRC process. The ASD class provides a small-group setting with a number of Special Education staff to support the needs of students with ASD, including supports for academics, behaviour, social skills, and transition planning. Grades 9-10, students are supported in partially integrated settings, while in grade 11-12+, students transition to a fully integrated program. The program also runs a number of social events and field trips, as well as run "The Biz", our school store.
The goal of our ASD program is to integrate students into mainstream classrooms and look at academic pathway programs for students future. We have ISP CYWs and SNA, that support our students in their classes and help to provide smooth transitions. We encourage students in the ASD program to join clubs and social events within the school to build community and foster relationships. We also communicate with parents and families about their student and events happening in the community that may help build social skills.
