Applying to Colleges

To learn more about applying to college, to search for different programs and to complete your college application visit ontariocolleges.ca

Ontario Student Assistant Program

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program that can help you pay for college or university through grants and loans. To learn more about OSAP and if you qualify visit the OSAP webpage.

George Brown College Vocational Program

The College Vocational program (A101) is a two-semester (1 year) program designed to address employment barriers and meet the employment preparation needs of students who are neurodiverse or who live with a mild intellectual disability.

This program is suitable for those who have graduated from high school with an Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC) or Diploma (OSSD) and workplace credits. This program is unique in Ontario.

Community Integration through
Co-operative Education (CICE) College Programs

CICE programs are 2 year certificate programs designed to provide adults with intellectual disabilities (also known as developmental disabilities) the opportunity to experience college life, develop enhanced independence and connect with like-minded individuals.

These programs are suitable for individuals who have graduated from high school with a Certificate of Accomplishment or an Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC).

Apprenticehsip Options

OYAP

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

Apprenticeship is paid post-secondary education where you learn a skilled trade by combining on-the-job and in-class training.

Transition Resource Guide for Youth/Adults with Disabilities

The Transition Resource Guide for Youth/Adults with Disabilities provides essential transition planning information for students who are graduating from high school. It is inclusive of a wide variety of learner profiles, needs and disabilities. It is intended to provide simple access and consistency in information across the TDSB. It is a helpful resource for Youth/Adult students with disabilities, caregivers/parents and educators. Many people were consulted and shared some of the resources included in this presentation, including staff from the following TDSB departments: Blind/Low Vision, Child and Youth Services, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Guidance, OT/PT, Special Education, and Speech-Language Pathology.

Individuals who receive DSO are eligible for ODSP but they still have to apply for ODSP.

ODSP also offers Employment Supports for individuals

MyCommunityHub is a registration service created to help people with developmental disabilities or Autism, their families, and caregivers, discover and register for programs and services in their community.

A website and virtual community dedicated to lifelong learning and support for people who have an intellectual disability, their families and support people.

P4P empowers people with disabilities and their families with FREE resources to create meaningful lives and secure futures, firmly rooted in community.

Employment Support Options

There are several employment support options out there, many of which are available to students who qualify for ODSP Employment Supports. Below are a few to get you started as you learn about different programs in the community.

Jake's House Employment Training Support

We provide employment supports for people transitioning from school and community to gainful employment. CLTO provides intake assessments, job development, employer engagement, job coaching, job advancement and retention supports. This holistic approach to employment supports enable participants' career success.

Community Living Toronto Employment Supports

Project Work

Project Work offers supported employment programs to help people who have an intellectual disability and who require extra support to imporve their work skills so they can find and keep jobs.

Corbrook

Corbrook is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides support to adults and youth with developmental disabilities in Toronto and York Region. Through meaningful citizenship and inclusion, we help people achieve rewarding life experiences by building on their strengths, interests and desires.

JVS Employment Supports

JVS provides targeted employment and volunteer programs to unlock your abilities so you can reach your potential at work. Programs available include:

Project GOLD - Preparing individuals with learning disabilities for employment

Path 2 Work - Helping adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities prepare for and find employment.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Job Readiness Project - Specialized coaching for job seekers with autism

Common Ground Cooperative

Common Ground Co-operative (CGC) has been creating social enterprise and skill building opportunities for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome and other developmental disabilities in Toronto. Our Client-Partners are supported by job coaches in social enterprises where they work, grow and share revenue as non-share capital partners.

Karis Disability Services / Humber College Culinary Skills Development & Employment Program

Individuals 18 years of age and over with Developmental Disabilities learn hands-on skills under the guidance of industry professionals in the state-of-the-art kitchen at Humber College.

On The Line Culinary Training

On the Line culinary program is a free, paid youth career training program in Toronto. You can get paid to learn, access skills-building opportunities, and gain employment readiness support in this 11-week culinary program.

Learn the skills and techniques you need to work in a kitchen, such as food prep and menu planning, under an experienced chef. In fact, you can take these skills and apply them to various jobs in the food service industry. Work as a line cook, in a manufacturing facility, or any other food service-related jobs.
