(Updated dec 7)
The Pokémon basketball season wrapped up after school on Tuesday with a pretty exciting battle on the court. Team Zubats took an early lead, stealing countless rebounds and shooting from a variety of locations around the key. Team Squirtles never gave up and thanks to some amazing drives and passes through the key in the 3rd quarter they were able to tie the game. The last 2 minutes was back and forth action with both teams running up the court and scoring. I still can’t believe that it ended in a 24-24 tie!! 2 CHAMP is history in the making.
Congratulations to Elena B and Alex S who are named season/League MVP's for their team!
Thank you to all the players for making this our best season yet. Thank you parents for the support at home and at the game today.
I look forward to our next sporting adventure!

The Falcons made me so proud yesterday at Birchmount. To see all their training, hard work and dedication on display at the Conference Finals was a dream come true. We were good sports. There are so many success stories. So many new personal best. So many Falcons wanting to run, jump and throw next year. Congratulations to the Grade 6 girls relay team who came in first place and will be heading to the City Finals. Game 5:
Game 6:
The Falcons made me so proud today. Everyone crossed the finish line strong. We battled the weather and came out on top. Great sportsmanship too! Students are invited and encouraged to continue training with the team in the morning until mid October.
Students who placed in the top 30 in grades 3-6 will move forward to the Conference Finals on Oct 15th. It looks like we have some teams moving forward too. I'll email all details soon. It was a perfect day.
A special shout out goes to Jackson, Saide and Eleanor who all placed 2nd in their races. The grade 6 boys and girls teams also set new records for our school with unbelievable team scores. I'm the luckiest coach in the city thanks to every Falcon who ran today!
See you at practice next Wednesday Oct 10th
Frankland will run on Tuesday Oct 2, 2018
The plan for Tuesday Oct 2:
Students arrive at 8:30am. Please meet in the gym. If you have Frankland gear please wear it. If your child does not have a Frankland shirt they will borrow a school jersey. Buses leave between 9:00-9:15am. The first race begins at 10am starting with grade 1 girl runners. All other races proceed by grade in a girl, then boy pattern. The event happens rain or shine. Approximate race times are attached to the bottom of this message.
**Because we have so many students taking part this year all runners will come to the race on the school bus and will also return to school on the bus. This makes keeping track of each student so much easier for the staff and parent volunteers.
Warm ups:
Our grade 6 runners will be warming up each team 20 minutes prior to their race this year. So awesome!
Parent Volunteers:
Thanks to all our parent volunteers. We will go over our plan in the morning. The first few adults to arrive will help me with race numbers and jerseys. If you have a student in a race. Having a parent from that grade marshal the kids to the start line and back to basecamp is really helpful. The more help the better.
What Each Runner Will Need on Tuesday: (Please review List)
- Running shoes
- Athletic clothing (Frankland gear if you have it)
- Dress in layers as the weather can be cooler at the beach.

We are going to have a great day at the track. Please dress for the weather.

When to arrive?
The 35 students coming on the school bus are asked to meet in the Frankland gym at 8:30am on Thursday. Students will line-up by grade and get their race numbers. We will be leaving for Birchmount around 9am. Mr. Mariano and Mr. Molina will be at the stadium early to secure our spot in the stands. We usually sit in the first 5 rows near the bathrooms in the middle of the sands. (If you don’t see us you will hear us cheering. We rock!)
Birchmount Event Info:
A schedule for the day will be attached to an email. Please note that event times can run 1 hour early, or 1 hour late. If you are planning to watch your child, please arrive early. The meet happens rain or shine so please have your child dressed for a full day outside. (Last year I got a sunburn and my wife was upset.) If your child has a track and field event at the same time, Mr. Sykes will send them to the track first and another student/parent volunteer will check them into their field event. (At this time only Erik, Alma, Neve and Finn S are doubled up in this way.)
What to Bring
- Running Shoes
- Frankland Gear (If you do not have a Frankland shirt Mr. Sykes will provide one)
- Comfortable athletic clothes (Shorts and jogging pant) The temperature at the stadium can be a bit cooler as we are closer to the lake. Dressing in layers is a good idea.
- Dress for the weather: The event happens rain or shine. Umbrella, sunscreen, sun glasses, and a garbage bag to put stuff into in the case of rain is a must! Did I mention sunscreen?
- Water Bottle
- Lunch and healthy snacks (Lots of healthy choices)
-A quiet activity to do between events. (it can be a long day for some.)
- **No Money**: Students will not be allowed to buy things at the meet. Parents please don’t buy treats for your kids at the meet as the food at the stadium is not the healthiest choices for our athletes. Save the ice cream and Tim bits for home time please.
