Effective design includes using fonts and font families that get the viewers attention without distracting them too much. Transit diagrams are meant to be utilitarian design works, so you'll want to choose legible and accessible typefaces to maximize readability across all your potential readers. You will want to use a simple, balanced Sans Serif font for your station names, legend text, and any other detail text, and may use a Display font once or twice for your title and headings. Placement of your text on your diagram is important. You don’t want to overlap any other elements or make the text too small to read. Keep this in mind when selecting your typefaces.
There are a number of fonts included in the Adobe CC library, most of them already installed in Illustrator. You can also use any of the fonts available in the Google font library, but you'll need to download the font files, unzip the compressed folder, and then install the .otf/.ttf files by double-clicking on the files and clicking "Install"
