Program: Open Broadcaster Studio (OBS)
Discipline: Audio/Visual, Broadcasting, Entertainment
Course: TGJ3M, TGJ4O
News broadcasts, sports events, live coverage of an event, a gaming livestream, a “live” on TikTok or Instagram all share a common thread. A lot of our media is consumed live, that is, broadcast directly from the source location, usually with a short delay of a few seconds and a bit of on-the-fly compositing and editing.
In this assignment, you will prepare, produce and present a short (but complete) broadcast event of your choice, complete with all of the graphical overlays, effects and considerations that make some broadcast media look professional. This could be a mock news cast, coverage of a live sporting or musical event, or an online livestream.
You will create the resources needed for your broadcast from scratch using the programs and skills you’ve learned thus far in the course (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere). These resources include all of the background and foreground media, off-air media, camera and audio sources, switchboard operation, chroma key filters, and the necessary layering to make each element visible and structured for your broadcast. The working files for your broadcast need to be built in such a way that allows you to reuse your scenes across multiple broadcasts of the same style.
Open Broadcasting Studio (OBS) is a free-to-use open source broadcasting switchboard that can be run portably on any Windows PC. You'll need to download the latest version of the software, extract it to a folder that you can reliably access (recommended: Downloads or G Drive, if you've enabled Google Drive).
Installation Instructions
