This project introduces students to civil engineering by participating in designing and building of a truss bridge that would be the most efficient. Competing in groups of 2 or 3's, students would use only paper materials and tubing to turn the bridge into a reality. All designs are done using Bridge Designer and SOLIDWORKS. Started and completed during the COVID pandemic/quarantine.
Working with Kelleey and Nina, we first came up with our own ideas on Bridge Designer and then proceeded to use Kelleey's idea of the bridge as it was the lowest in cost. We decided to rather be lighter than hold more weight which was an arch abutment truss bridge that has triangles as vertical members. This design won first place out of 17 teams in our class, along with being one of the two teams that held more than 200lb (212 lb) and weighing 1.4 lb in the process.
