Toronto Catholic District School Board’s top scholars for the 2018-19 academic year have earned coveted grades in a variety of subject areas. Their secrets to success? Some say hard work, organization, determination and discipline, while others say it was their thirst for knowledge.
These top students far exceeded provincial education standards. Core learning in the areas of science, mathematics, technology and the arts built a foundation of skills for their postsecondary studies where they will prepare for success in their future careers in law, medicine and engineering.
Outside the classroom, these talented individuals used their voice and influence to positively change their school environments and become more actively involved in their communities.
Congratulations to our Top Scholars, their parents and school communities:

In ten stories penned by St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy’s 2017/2018 grade eleven Native Studies English students and illustrated by grade nine Native Studies Art students, characters embark on journeys to explore their identities and accept themselves amidst adversity. St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy's Native Studies English teacher, Jol-Christine Molina, and Native Art teacher, Julia DiCarlo, hoped this collaborative project would give students an opportunity to help bring to life the stories of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada that are often forgotten. In these stories, a girl leaves her home in hopes of finding a new one. Enemies learn to forgive. Siblings get lost in the woods. A brother longs to reconnect with his missing sister. A young woman seeks love, but is met with heartbreak. Addressing themes of identity, discrimination, fear, bravery, and love, Lacuna, which means the missing part, was written as a means to bridge the gap in literature and voice the challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples today.

St. Mother Teresa for the second year in a row is the York University 2019 FIRST Robotics District Event winner. SMT Titans - Team 6140 dominated this weekend’s event – Destination Deep Space. This diverse team finished in First Place having won 17 of 19 games. In spite this only being their first event – the remarkable win catapulted Mother Teresa to #21 of 179 teams in the Province. Students will play their final match at McMaster University April 5 to 7.
St. Mother Teresa, as the event’s #1 team and Alliance Captain strategically chose a veteran team to complement 6140’s efficiently designed intake system. As a final pick, Titans invited Senator O’Connor’s Team 6141 to close out the alliance.
The SMT Alliance later competed in the finals against the #5 seeded Alliance which included Neil McNeil Team 6975. Having 3 TCDSB teams faceoff in the finals was awesome.
A true sense of comradery existed between Neil McNeil and SMT Titans. The history shared, stems from a strong bond established between the two teams. Both teams worked very closely during the Robotics Season. Following the reveal of the 2019 FIRST Robotics Challenge on January 5th students from SMT met at Neil McNeil every Saturday. Team 6140 had the opportunity to be mentored in all areas. The two teams formed great friendships and enjoyed building their robotics alongside each other.
Congratulations to FIRST Robotics finalists St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy.

The artwork represents the views of youth and how they see the future of Toronto, and also highlights the Malvern community.
