Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
TCDSB’s OYAP is a school‑to‑work program that lets Grade 11–12 students begin training in a skilled trade through co‑op placements while still completing high school. Within the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), OYAP is offered to help students gain real workplace experience in a trade while earning high school credits
Across Ontario, students must:
Be at least 15 years old
Be enrolled full‑time or part‑time in high school
Have at least 14 credits
TCDSB uses three application categories to match students with the right level of involvement
Co‑op/OYAP Participant — For students exploring a trade and unsure if they want to pursue it long‑term.
Co‑op/OYAP Registrant — For students who are confident they want to pursue the trade; a formal Training Agreement is created.
Accelerated OYAP Candidate — A competitive senior‑year program (usually starting in semester II) that may include trade school components.
Through OYAP, students can:
Earn co‑op credits while working in a skilled trade placement
Potentially register as apprentices and begin accumulating hours toward certification
Explore trades such as automotive service technician, hairstylist, general carpenter, and many others
