Citizens say he got elected because of his knowledge about Birmingham, his campaigning tactics and his ability to reach all walks of life in Birmingham.
Mayor Woodfin is one of the highest paid mayors, with a salary of $107,973. Birmingham's Mayor does not rank among the city's 50 highest-paid employees, but he is one of the highest paid mayors in the nation.
The Woodfin Way is a program developed by Randall Woodfin. It is a process of where he listens to the citizens of Birmingham. He spent a year and a half listening to Birmingham residents’ hopes, wishes, and dreams of Birmingham. Mayor Woodfin said in an article, "During that time, I learned a lot about what was important to them." Woodfin also said that the past few months have been an incredible period of discovery. He came up with a team that is devoted specifically for the Birmingham community and its citizens. He really cares about the people's best interests and that is what makes him such a great mayor.
The Birmingham mayor in an article explained what he would like to do towards Birmingham. He said, "I am a son of the city of Birmingham." He also mentioned that" there are real issues around people feeling safe on their front porch." He plans to solve this problem by more beat officers, replace 16 ,17, and 18 year old's who are picking up guns and give them a job, and make sure young people finish high school.
Residents, elected officials, and board members will gather together on Friday, April 26 to participate in a closing ceremony with the old library. The library will officially close at 6p.m. on April 26. Employees will pack boxes for the move. The library will still offer after school programming, demolition for the library is expected to start in May. The old 2,000 square foot building will be replaced with a 6,000 square foot building. Randall Woodfin stated, “I’m happy to see this $1.6 million project finally become a reality. The residents of Wylam have waited a long time to see a new library, and I’m glad that we can provide it for them.’’
