Check out the Tau Beta Sigma National Website details for the Focus on Five campaign breakdown. Continue down to see some tips for the different programs.
Join the TBΣ National Discord to see other chapters, and if you are the Focus on Five liaison.
Though each chapter has a liaison, it is not the whole chapter's responsibility to complete each stripe. Asking for help
It is every sister's responsibility to ensure the chapter is making progress and completing its Focus on Five campaign.
Download and print cards for each member of your chapter!
Bring pens for your members when you fill out the cards
Get it done early! This is the earliest stripe deadline!
Either complete a Crescendo or Coda event within your chapter's community.
Host a Women in Speaker!
Host a leadership works for your music program
Develop your own musicianship and skills
Looking for more ways to support your University?
Consider the amount of time and resources you have to offer. Trying to do more is amazing until it overwhelms your chapter. The size of the service is not what matters, it is that you are trying to do more!
Start by reaching out to your sponsor, DOB, and other staff that your chapter is currently close with to see if there is anything that needs support.
Take time to brainstorm...consider products that help the programs, building, staff, or students.
This could range from cleaning a room, fundraising for new folders, or adding confidence notes on stands for a concert.
Here is a template for brainstorming.
Few Ideas:
Polish Bells of Instruments before a performance
Clean and organize Practice rooms
Host a banquet for a band
Tape Concert (with permission)
Zeta Nu at the University of Northern Iowa hosts along with 4 other music organizations (including Kappa Kappa Psi). This is hosted near the beginning of the school year to create a space for students to learn about music-related organizations, get to know others interested in music, and have fun!
Alpha Theta at the University of North Dakota hosts a Band Parent Breakfast where they make and provide food for the whole marching band and their families to eat!
Delta Kappa at Kansas State helped their percussion studio relocated their equipment into a different building.
Giving back to the community can be valuable! This is a great way also to increase contacts and connect to root your chapter more in the community outside of your University.
These can range from planning our own to setting up a time to attend a local food shelf.
Ideas:
Adopt-a-Highway: commit the chapter to cleaning a 1-2 mile stretch of highway a couple of times each semester
Put a small band together for a community parade
Red Cross blood drive
Rake Leaves for houses near campus
Usher local band ensemble performances
Volunteer at a homeless shelter, food shelf, women's shelter, or other nonprofit
Offer lessons to high school students
Alpha Iota at the University of Minnesota hosted a blanket tieing event to create blankets for their local children's hospital.
Each year, Zeta Nu takes to the sides of the roads to help clean up trash near Earth Day
