Building is a vital part of creating an enjoyable and healthy leadership team. Taking time out of chapter meetings and daily life to learn about each other and just having fun allows for more seamless communication during service events. While our service events can be a blast, these typically are focused events that create little time for getting to know other members of the chapter. Bonding can also help with retaining members and show future members your chapter's focus in the community.
Without bonding, sisterhood is a limited experience.
Ranging from having no communication with brothers to wanting to work on strengthening your chapter's social relationships.
Create a relationship with another chapter!
Through the year, through ensembles, sections and more
Though each chapter hosts a recruitment season. When that season is over, recruitment does not stop! Wearing apparel and representing the organization is 24/7. Sneaking positive comments of your chapter into daily life produces constant interest and memory of what you do to allow for future interest in recruitment season.
Examples of Game Night (Alpha Theta), Water balloon Fight (Delta Kappa), Coloring (Zeta Omega), Painting Records (Zeta Nu), Sardines (Zeta Nu)
Having a large chapter is great until all the sister's focus starts to fade. When recruitment, it can be easy to want lots of MCs when, instead, we should focus on finding future sisters who hold our values.
Though food is not a reason to stay in an organization, let's be real: it helps get people's feet in the door!
Host an Event:
Host a brunch during Homecoming weekend. This is a common time when Alumni go back to their University and can lead to a great way for Alumni to gather and reconnect!
Host a Family Reunion: create a weekend day where people can attend. Maybe eat food together or play some games!
Host a service project where alumni can join!
Invite them to Rituals, Ceremonies, or other events:
Rituals and Ceremonies are already planned, and another way to invite Alumni to come back and visit the chapter! Great way to engage them in sorority-related events!
Hosting a focus on a project? Invite Alumni to attend! Women on Music is a great one to either invite Alumni to attend in person or virtually. Another easy one to attend is the watch your chapter black stripe recital! Create a live stream to provide a way for Alumni who live far away to stay involed!
Passive Engagement:
Allowing for Alumni to feel connected might look a little more passive, too! Encourage Alumni to follow the social media account, send them monthly new letters or send them letters with a little holiday card!
Creating engagement can allow for the opportunity to connect and receive support from your Alumni in the future! Also helps keep the sisterhood strong! MLIBT
