Intro
The blood of the blacks,
screaming for justice
in generations, is awakened
by the death of George Floyd. Racism needs to end. This is a very big world wide problem and later on in the speech I will note a few ways we can reduce racism.
BODY 1
So let me start with this. Racism is a big problem in the United States. Prejudice exists because of slavery and segregation in the past. These things don’t exist now but the after effects still remain. Some of these effects are prejudice from police toward black people. For example, Martin, a 17-year-old African American, was returning from a convenience store when he was noticed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood-watch volunteer. George contacted the non-emergency line of the Sanford Police Department The dispatcher communicated to George that the police did not need him to follow Martin, but George left his vehicle. George fired his weapon at Martin at close range, causing Martin’s death. When the police arrive George said he shot Martin in self defence. This is only one of many people who have been shot or knelt on to death. George Floyd was also another famous victim of police brutality and I think we can learn a lot from the poem Black Lives Matter with the line “The blood of the blacks, screaming for justice in generations, is awakened by the death of George Floyd.”This line means African Americans have been screaming for justice for generations then they have been awakened by the death of people like Martin and george floyd and they really think this can't go on for much longer. How many African American people have to die before this changes?
BODY 2
African American people don’t just experience police brutality though. I'm going to look at two other types of racism: individual racism and systemic racism. Individual racism is when someone makes a racist comment or a racist slur when someone uses hate speech or commits a hate crime like spitting on someone because of the color of their skin or writing racist comments on a wall. Racial microaggressions are when someone has a mini attack with something to do with your race. These mini attacks can be questions or comments that don't seem hurtful but because they happen all the time they actually hurt a lot and the pain can last for a really long time.an example of these mini attacks can be if somebody is chinese but is born in america and are brought up in America then somebody can come and say you speak really good english but they have been in America there whole life. This is not right because somebody is judging somebody on the way they look and it’s annoying to be asked that all the time. People need to consider their words and their actions when dealing with other cultures.
BODY 3
Slavery. The differences between the attitudes of the North and South (Civil War) people in the southen USA have a different look on racism because they have had it around for so many years with slavery. So many different states have different attitudes toward race. For my thesis to help slow down racism there are 3 ways that I reckon we can slow down racism but there is one more coming later on number 1 is to hold more protests number 2 is to bring people up on racist jokes and comments to say that it's not ok and how harmful it is number 3 is to say a speech to a large crowd to raise awareness so that people can realize how bad racism is. My PMI table shows me that pointing out racist jokes is the best way but it might not be as effective as holding a big protest or a speech on racism. Rooted in slavery, racial difrences in policing and police violence, they say, are sustained by systemic exclusion and discrimination, and fueled by implicit and explicit bias. So the solution to me is that there needs to be more African American police officers in the system because they can know the struggles of what they go through as this would help address African American people not being included in the system of policing.
Conclusion
What I am going to do for my action is to raise awareness by using the hashtag Black lives matter in my next social media post. If you treat somebody the way you want to be treated then there should be no such thing as racism, says Reggie Miller, a pro NBA player. I hope you agree
