Introduction:
Have you ever wondered about what a healthy teenager looks like or how you could change your routine and wake up every morning feeling a whole lot brighter and better? Well, Sam and I will be covering the topic of ‘Health’ and with an end result of an answer to our fertile question which is “What is the optimum health condition for teenagers?” We will also write four main detailed paragraphs and a conclusion. We will talk about why mental health is so important, give examples of what a healthy teen and unhealthy teen looks like, sleep, and finally, we will talk about food and exercise. After this will be the conclusion to give a summary of everything that we have included in the report from start to finish.
Vaping
Vaping is a big thing going round for teens but I don't think they know or care how damaging it is for their health.
Some of the problems that led teens to vaping include, having money to spend because teens usually have a job by this age which allows them to give adults money to buy it for them or older siblings. Teens get attracted because of all the flavors there are which hooks them into it. Because friends or family members use them which gives them free access because they can be laying around the house, another cause can be that they are easier to get a hold of than other tobacco products, and they also cost less money which is a big part in teens getting a hold of them.
The consequences for vaping include: Addiction, e-cigarettes include a highly addictive drug called nicotine that hooks you into it and never wants you to let go of your vape. Anxiety and depression, nicotine makes anxiety and depression worse, vaping also affects your memory, concentration, selfcontrol, and attention, especially in developing brains. Vaping can also cause sleep problems, exposure to cancer-causing chemicals and lung damage that can be life threatening. Another thing is vaping has only been out for 20 years, also Other effects are very possible that people don't know about.
Possible solutions to teens vaping can be changing the flavors as the flavors are very sweet like strawberry, watermelon, blue raspberry, vanilla and so many more. You could change these flavors so they are not so teen directed. Another solution can be raising the prices as some vapes cost less than others and teens might not be willing to pay the price. The average amount of money you will have to spend to get a disposable vape costs 7$ . This could be the reason many teens are doing it because it is just so cheap.
The best solution I think is changing the price. The price of vapes is are very affordable price for teenagers and we think that if stores raise the price of them then people may see a decrease in sales worldwide.

Diet
For a teen You should be eating a healthy balanced diet that matches your energy needs. This should be made up of the five main food groups of Fruit and vegetables, starchy foods, such as potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and other starchy carbohydrates, beans and pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins. Dairy food and lastly Oils and spreads.
The causes of how many teens have bad diets is because they get access to more money by having a part time job, they go out often with mates which can make teens lazy about making good food choices. An example of this is if you with some mates and they all decided to go to Mcdonalds then you would probably end up just eating McDonalds rather than choosing a healthier option. Fast food places like these are mostly unhealthy but attract teens in groups because of how quick it is and how much cheaper it is to get fast food rather than going to a healthier food option or cooking a meal at home.
The consequences of a bad diet can lead to eating too much food that is just rubbish and has no nutritional value which can lead to overweight and obesity. Being overweight can lead to an increased risk of type two diabetes, sleep apnoea and hip and joint problems. It can also lead to heart disease and some cancers. However, not eating enough can cause your bones and muscles to have poor development and growth. Not eating enough can also lead to problems like fatigue, poor concentration, loss of muscle mass, and lack of proper muscle and bone development.
A simple solution to this problem is to limit yourself with fast food as much as you can and only eat it accationly like once every couple of weeks or every month if you find yourself relying on it too much, the next thing to do is to have healthy food every night. This could even be a pizza with lots of veggies and greens.
This graph shows the year group on the x ataxia and the percentage on the y axis and the data in the bars. This shows that teens are the highest over all year groups from 13-18 years of age. Next is 6-11 then 2-5 years of age.
Exercise
Sam and I both think that anyone should exercise often. Unfortunately, there are alot of teens in New Zealand that would rather just stay home, even on sunny days and simply do nothing. A new study showed that only 40% of New Zealand get enough of the right kind of exercise per week, which leaves over 60% of teenagers not exercising enough. A major problem of why teens don't exercise is that they have a lot of access to a whole range of video games which overtime makes them lazier and lazier. Some teenagers may even skip meals just to play games, which is really unhealthy.
Poor physical activity can also lead to energy imbalance. An example of this is you will expend less energy through physical activity than consumed through diet and can increase the risk of becoming overweight or obese, increase the risk of factors for cardiovascular disease, including hyperlipidemia which refers to high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, high blood pressure, obesity, and insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. You may also Increase the risk for developing type 2 diabetes and increase the risk for developing breast, colon, endometrial, and lung cancers. These things can then lead to low bone density, which in turn, leads to osteoporosis.
This is why Sam and I think that anyone, but especially teens should get at least an hour of exercise daily. A simple solution for if you find yourself spending much more time on a screen than exercising then you should try to limit yourself as much as possible from screens until you can have a balance. This could just be by setting a goal each day of what you are going to do and what you are going to minimize. You can exercise whether it be from going to the gym, going out for a run or a bike, or playing a sport, going for a skate or even just going for a walk.

Sleep
Sleep is essential for any age. But especially in teens, physical, social, and emotional development requires quality sleep. Most teens need 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. Sadly, research indicates that many teens don't meet that 8 to ten hours of sleep, most are getting around 7 hours of sleep. So let's look at some of the causes of teens not getting enough sleep. Phones, Phones play a big part in this as a teenager i know that phones are very distracting at night and keep you up for to long you always get that feeling that you don't want to put it down and i it's really affecting your mental health by doing this TV, TVs can also be very distracting you might be watching a netflix series and say you will go to sleep after this episode and you all of a sudden get hooked into it and want to watch more and more. Teens who put their phones down or any device down an hour before bed can gain an extra 21 minutes of sleep a night and 1 hours and 45 minutes of sleep a week. So now let's talk about the Consequences of staying up too late on devices.
Although getting enough sleep may not seem that big a deal, teens who don’t get enough sleep and are overtired are more likely to Struggle in school because of their lack of focus. You will begin to have trouble with memory, concentration and motivation which means you will have trouble accomplishing your goals. Depression and sleep problems are closely linked with not having enough sleep and You will begin to lose concentration throughout your day. Falling asleep during class and feeling moody. These consequences have a big effect on your mental health and your grades in school. Here are some various solutions to our problems. Here is something to help you get more sleep. On your phone you can set time allowances on apps like tik tok, instagram, and snapchat and basically all your apps you can set a time your phone is locked so you can't access any apps. Say if you go to bed at 9:30 you can set your phone to turn off at 8:30 which will allow you to not go on your phone. A solution to tvs is not watching it at night you can watch it in the day maybe after school or even better just don’t go on any device. My favorite solution to our problems is setting a time when your phone turns off. I think this solution would be the best because you can't go on your phone to look at rubbish so you will get a good night's sleep and be ready for the next day.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Kris and I have come up with 4 solutions for each problem. Our first solution to our first problem is vaping. We think that if you raise the prices of vapes, teens wouldn't want to pay the price to buy them, Which would reduce the amount of vaping for teens. The second solution for your diet is to limit yourself with fast food as much as you can. For this solution you need to be responsible for yourself and not get out of hand. The third solution for your sleep is setting a timer for when your phone goes off to restrict your screen time at night. And lastly exercise A simple solution to exercise is. If you find yourself spending much more time on a screen than exercising then you should try to limit yourself as much as possible from screens until you can have a balance. This could just be by setting a goal each day of what you are going to do.
With that being said we now have a combined answer to our fertile question which is what we think a healthy teen looks like. Our question is “What is the optimum health condition for a teenager?” In our opinion, first make sure that you try your best to make sure that you get 8-10 hours of sleep each night, get over an hour of exercise everyday, cut out fast foods as much as you can and choose better food options that are healthier for you. Lastly, don't vape.
