Now, most people know what racism is but have you ever been racist and not known or did you know and did it on purpose? Well, even if you didn't mean to, it still hurts, people don’t know how much words hurt, so they just say it and think that you will take it as a joke, it's not.ki ora ko Mana toku ingoa,hi my name is Mana So personally I have been called racial slurs before because I look Indian, people used to call me pun jub, curry muncher and other slurs. It wasn't until I stood up to them then they left me alone. So when I hear people get called slurs I stand up to those who are mean but you should to. This is only one of the ways we could stand up to racism but first.
RQ1
What is racism?
Racism can come in many different ways. It could be in slurs or words, treating someone differently because of their race and stereotypes like people judge someone because once the same race did something and they think that because one of them did it they all do. So now that we know, I'm going to elaborate on these different styles of racism. So slurs like most people know are like the N-word or people say, punjab to indians or slit eyes to any asian.Treating someone different is treating someone different like not allowing a person of different colour to enter a cafe or a bar. This brings me to

My text
As Martin Luther King once said in his speech “I have a dream” “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character”. Is saying that he wants his children to grow up to live in a world where they are not judged because they are of different skin colour so what he means is racism is an injustice because, social justice means fairness or equality. But racism is when someone is treated differently because of their colour and that is not equal or fair so people stand up to this and it becomes a social justice matter because people want to make a change. What do they want to stop?
RQ3
Stereotypes
Now a big type of racism is stereotypes. These are what people say about someone's race or identity but we will focus on race and that is towards coloured people. Now a huge stereotype towards a coloured person is thinking they are a criminal only 38% of black/coloured people are in prison so most likely the people you see are white americans in jail, so why is a coloured person automatically seen as a criminal to the police or the justice system. Well did you know that the places with some of the highest percentages of racism are the health care, the justice system and the police. So what does this mean most places you go to could be racist? Now
RQ4
The negative effects of racism
If you wondering aren't all effects negative well yes and no some might boost confidence by blocking out those who are being racist and mean or it could completely ruin their confidence and well-being and if worse go’s to worse it could lead to depression or even self-harm. Now should we be treating people like they are just skin ,no we should not others might but we should’t and like the quote “An eye for an eye makes the world blind” by Gandhi means that revenge will only lead to conflict but it also means that if we be just as bad as they are it would make us no better then them. This means not to go down to their level and be pitiful like them.but to ignore and tell someone even if you're scared to stand up for yourself it’s the only way.Plus did you know that world racism happens everyday but it is best to be focusing on the U.S.
RQ5
So did you know that african americans only make up 13% of the U.S population and are 35% of the unarmed killings by police officers. Yeah and hispainc is 20% they make up over half of the unarmed killings. Now I wonder why that is, it's easy for them to think that they are criminals because they are different and the worst part is most of them get away with it. Is it okay for police to shoot unarmed coloured people everyday. Most of the time on the news you will find a colurd person found shot dead by the police. So why, well I don't know people are messed up, they think that because of the colour of a person represents them as a person and why I don't know.
RQ6
But what I can tell you is some ways to stand up to racism. First if you have instagram or anything like that do hashtag blm or I can’t breathe this will bring more attention to the deaths of coloured people and show your support, second think before saying anything if your about to say something racist dont and third stop saying stuff like the N-word or anything like that even if your friend gave you something like a infinite N-word pass also if you hear someone being racist please stop them it’s not funny. Will you stand up? thank you for your time.
