Introduction

Social media, a huge part of today’s society so what is and how should you stay safe when using social media. I will be talking about What Should Be Done to reduce the impact of cyberbullying on social media. Here are some impacts of cyberbullying. The bully can experience Social anxiety, Depression, low self esteem and Fear.

What is Social Media

Social media is something where you can get in contact with all your friends and family online without having to go see them. There are lots of things you can do like text, buy stuff online, make a business and you don't have to go or do anything all you have to do is just touch a screen like what jeff benoz did, He made a website called amazon and he is the richest person in the world. all he has to do is just sit back and relax. Social media came out in 1997 and the first social media was SixDegrees.com. SIxDegrees was created by Andrew WeinReich.

How Many People Are on social media?

Since social media has come out there has been a whole different world on the internet. This year there were 3.6 billion people using social media Worldwide That is Almost half the population using social media. Social Media has grown A Lot since the past few years. Back In 2010 there were only 980 Million people on social media and now in 2020 there is 3.6 billion.

What is the most popular social media?

During the past few years facebook has been the most popular social media In the world it has over 2.4 billion monthly active users. But this year they have done research and Instagram is First right now with 1 billion active monthly users. Everyday on instagram the are 100million videos and photos getting uploaded daily. I also Emailed my Expert Which was David Couper, who is an expert in Health and PE In TBCon what he thinks the most popular social media is and he said that Facebook is probably the social media that is the most popular and then he said instagram was second only because there is more young people on it

How long does the average person spend on social media?

I did some research and it says all the people that use a smartphone spend at least 2 hours 33 Minutes on social media. In that 2 hours and 33 minute they spend 58 minutes on Facebook per day, Then Instagram with 53 minutes and then youtube with 40 minutes per day If you take that, that's 1/10 of a Full day just tapping a screen or looking just watching videos.

I asked my Expert David Couper how long he spends on social media and he said he usually spends around 30 minutes per day so that is a lot lower than the average kid or adult.

How Many People Get Affected By CyberBullying?

Many people are affected by cyberbullying all over the world. Around 37% of people 12-17 have been affected by Online bullying. And 30% of the people said they were affected by cyberbullying more than once. I read that one in three young people get affected cyberbullying around the world, most people don't say anything to people or report that they get cyber bullied because they think they would get consequences. In some articles I found it said that girls are much more likely to be affected by cyberbullying because the girls focus more on social media when the boys are too busy on gaming.

What Age Do People usually get social media?

Around the world the average age you get your first smartphone is 10-11. And when they get their first smartphone they usually get social media straight away if they are allowed. When they get their smartphone they usually tend to go onto sites that they don't know anything about. When they go into a site they don't know they might leak personal info like the mum credit card and emails and passwords.

I talked with my expert , David Couper. I asked him what age do you think people should get social media and he said I believe year 9 (13-14) is a good time to start a social media account. At this age I believe you are responsible enough to understand the impact you can have online and also the importance of using the privacy settings well.

There are some things that could help reduce some of the cyberbullying online but here are the main ones and why. Change the Age for the apps for this one there are pluses and minuses like On positive is you will get less cyber bullied because you might be underage and you won't be able to get the apps. But the minuses is that more people will start lying about their age to get the app and to get in contact with friends and family. There is also another solution, which is you don't have social media at all. There are also pluses and minuses with this so a plus about it is you wont get cyberbullied or dragged into any type of drama and you won't get involved with leaking your personal information to unsecure sites but the negative about not having social media is you won't be able to get in contact with Friends or family if your in trouble or you have plans with friends

Conclusion

In summary

After all my research I think not having social media is the best solution because you won't be involved in any drama. There are bad things about not having social media like you wont be able to get in contact with any of your friends if you need to.
