Dear Grades 5 - 8 Students and Parents,
Whether you are new to our community or a returning family, we assure you of a warm welcome from our dedicated faculty and current community members. Our focus is on your child’s holistic development, placing them at the center of our planning, and ensuring that they are ready to embrace the rich educational opportunities we offer and are equipped with the skills, attitudes, and passions to thrive in an ever-changing world.
In Grades 5 - 8, we recognize the challenges of this transitional stage in our students’ learning journey. Our teachers are committed to providing a stimulating, and responsive learning environment that challenges, engages, and promotes the personal growth of our students. We nurture curiosity and celebrate our international mindedness, offering multiple pathways to success that encourage creativity, risk-taking, and the development of agency.
In addition to our academic focus, we also prioritize the mental well-being of our students. We understand that Middle School can be a challenging time for students as they undergo physical and emotional changes, and we provide a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive. Our approach to mental health is based on a proactive and preventative model, where we provide resources and support to help students build resilience, manage stress and anxiety, and develop coping strategies. We believe that a healthy mind is essential for academic success, and we work to support the mental health needs of all our students.
We believe in educating learners to be agile, resilient, and academically inquisitive, and our high expectations for both students and teachers reflect this commitment. Our learning space values not only “what we learn” but also “how we learn,” providing a safe space for mistakes, inquiry, investigation, and negotiation.
In conclusion, we are delighted to work together as a global community of learners, placing joy at the heart of the journey and keeping our students at the center of all that we do.
Thank you for being a part of our community.
Dr. Megel Barker
