Our School Day: The Academic Day runs from 8:15 a.m. until 3:20 p.m. except for Wednesdays, which run from 9 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Middle School students have optional Sports and Activities until 5:05 p.m., often on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule.
Attendance: Regular daily attendance is mandatory for all students.
Daily absence reporting: To report your child’s absence, please email the Middle School Office at msoffice@tasisengland.org or call 01932 582336. If your child is ill on consecutive days, you are required to inform the Middle School Office each morning by 8 a.m.
Planned Absence Reporting: If you know that your child will be absent from school, please contact the Middle School Office at least 48 hours in advance and direct your child to collect and complete a planned absence form and then return it to the Middle School Office.
Excused Absence Request: Please note that we are only able to grant excused absences for approved events. We monitor student absences according to UK statutory guidelines so the decision to remove your child from school must be considered and discussed with us in advance. Where the absence is deemed to be a family decision that does not qualify as excused according to our procedures, the absence will be coded as “holiday not agreed” on your child’s attendance record.
Early Release from School: If your child needs to leave school during the day, he or she must sign out at the Middle School Office and then meet you in the car park. You will also need to provide the reason for your child's missing learning on that day.
Many assignments are accessible through Google Classroom or the School’s online Learning Management System (LMS), providing opportunities for your child to continue their learning while absent.
Counseling: The Middle School Counselor plays a crucial role in working with students in the Middle School. The Counselor is available to speak to students, faculty, and parents. Students experiencing academic or personal difficulties are referred to the Student Support team. Parents and/or faculty members may, at any point in the academic year, raise concerns about a student. Additional services provided to middle school students are assistance with transition and resiliency, coping skills, communication skills, and conflict resolution skills.
Counseling, while mainly individual, also occurs at grade-level meetings, targeted meetings with small groups, or whole-school meetings depending on the nature of the issue being addressed. Our Middle School Counselor coordinates the PSHEE program.
Academic Program: The Grades 5-8 Academic Program contains an overview of the curriculum, our assessment procedures, the nature of our reporting, and the content and concepts covered in each subject. The Academic Program is updated annually to reflect the curriculum that is delivered in that specific year.
Reporting: Middle School reporting is characterized by its continuous, dynamic, and transparent nature.
Ongoing Access: Parents have ongoing access to their child’s assessment data through the Learning Management System (LMS). Vital notifications regarding your child’s learning engagement, along with access to published reports, are communicated through the LMS. It serves as a central hub for staying updated on your child’s progress and accessing essential information about our school procedures.
Parent Conferences: We provide two parent conference opportunities each year, scheduled in the First and Third Trimester. Details on booking conferences are typically shared via email, accompanied by step-by-step guidance for new parents.
Published Reports: We publish regular reports at the end of each trimester. Each of the reports focuses on different aspects of your child’s learning journey. All reports can be accessed through the LMS.
Trimester 1
Social and Emotional Development
Reports will contain a detailed comment from their child’s advisor focusing on their social and emotional well-being along with effort marks and grades from their subject teachers. All subjects will have a synopsis of learning concepts covered in the First Trimester with specific targets for each student.
Trimester 2
Academic Progress
Reports will contain a detailed personalized comment from each subject teacher focusing on your child’s growth and development over the past trimester, along with effort marks and grades for the Second Trimester. The report will also share a synopsis of learning concepts explored up to the point of the report.
Trimester 3
Self-Reflection
Reports will contain a detailed comment from their child’s advisor, focusing on their social and emotional well-being, along with effort marks and grades from their subject teachers. The report also contains a self-reflection comment written by your child that covers all the subjects they studied in the school year.
Academic Monitoring is a supportive intervention designed to help students who are experiencing challenges in their academic performance. When teachers identify concerns about a student's classroom effort, academic progress, or ability to meet grade-level requirements, the school initiates this structured support process. The primary goal of Academic Monitoring is to provide targeted assistance that helps students improve their academic skills and performance rather than to punish or stigmatize them.
During the Academic Monitoring period, which typically lasts 3-6 weeks, students receive personalized guidance through increased communication and support. This typically involves weekly feedback from teachers, specific academic targets tailored to the student's needs, and a collaborative approach that includes the student, teachers, advisors, and parents. After the monitoring cycle, a parent meeting is held to discuss the student's progress and determine whether the student will exit the Academic Monitoring process or require additional support. The process is constructive and forward-looking, focusing on developing strategies for improvement, building student confidence, and ensuring that each student has the resources and support necessary to succeed academically.
Daily Schedule: Middle School students follow a schedule that is different for each day of the week. Students and parents can view the schedule on the LMS.
Each Middle School student takes five core academic subjects along with required specialist courses in art, music, innovation & design, drama, and physical education. The five core requirements are English, History, Foreign Language or Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. PSHEE is required for all Middle School students and is delivered by our advisors with the support of our Middle School Counselor.
Students can choose to participate in co-curricular sports and activities, but attendance is required once enrolled in an activity. All absences should be reported in advance to saattendance@tasisengland.org and the Middle School Office.
