This was our first family outing after we arrived in Tashkent. Our driver/ gardener took us down by the Japanese Gardens, where we saw street artists and a lovely park. Tashkent is so green!

Although both her parents lived for years in the Washington DC area, they had never taken Alexandra on a tour of the city's important monuments (Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial at Arlington Cemetery). This was a rainy but special bus trip with a wonderful guide.

Alexandra's favorite American President is Abraham Lincoln who spent most of his adult life, up to the time he was elected President, in Springfield, Illinois, a small town a few hours south of Chicago. The town has everything Lincoln, including the museum in front of which this huge statue was erected.

Alexandra really enjoyed acting in the Elementary School play, based on Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book. She especially liked Charlotte's awesome costume (and it didn't take that long to wash out the hair color)!

A Night at the Opera
Alexandra loves to sing and she and her parents all love opera! In our three years in Tashkent, we have been to the beautiful Alisher Navoi theater at least 25 times, to listen to opera, watch ballet, or enjoy some holiday programming.
