Capybaras are able to reproduce once a year in favorable conditions. Capybaras breed in the water, The gestation period lasts for around five months. Females bear one litter of two to eight pups per year.
The maximum lifespan of the capybara is 8 to 10 years, but in the wild capybaras do not love longer than four years because of predators. Jaguars and cougars tend to eat them.
