Unit 1 Description: The most important lesson for students to learn in this unit and all units after this one is the survival or downfall of civilizations. Civilizations is the underlying theme of Ancient History. Where did we, as humans, come from, how did we get here, how did our ancestors survive and thrive in ancient times. We will investigate how scientists explore and research the past and how geography and climate play a major roll in where humans settle. Students will develop an understanding of the hunter-gather societies of the Paleolithic Age and how their inventions led to the development of permanent settlements and the foundations for civilization. Primary and secondary sources will be used to analyze how hunter-gathers used these tools to help them in their daily lives.
