Who Are We

Principal: Trudy Pankhurst

I have been a primary school teacher since the late 80s and have taught all primary and intermediate age groups in towns and rural settings throughout my career. I have taught in varying schools in the Wairarapa, Otago and Southland regions and have 12 years principal experience.

I have just completed 4 years as a Resource Teacher of the Deaf completing post grad papers in Special Education. I have two children who are in their mid 20s and my daughter has two lovely girls so that makes me a nanny. I have moved north again after nearly 20 years in the deep south and already appreciate the warmer temperatures! I keep myself busy with my family and friends, like to get involved in community activities and currently love the early morning walks along the beach. I teach the class at Tangimoana on for 3.5 days per week. I have been the principal of Tangimoana School since August 2019.

Principal Release Teacher : Kristi Whittaker

Kiaora, my name is Kristi Whittaker and I am new in your school. I am 46 years old and live with my partner and 5 year old son in Sanson. We have a blended whanau of five boys, 31, 28, 23, 22 years old, three daughter in laws, and three grandchildren 4 to 12 with another on the way.

We have a 14 acre lifestyle block where we grow our own food with orchards, veggie gardens, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, and a few pets. We have a 1901 relocated villa that we are slowly renovating which keeps me very busy.

Prior to teaching I spent 10 years as a plumber and gasfitter, and lived in the USA for 6.5 years. I studied at Massey University and have spent the last ten years teaching early childhood education in Bulls, Marton and Palmerston North.

I am thrilled to be part of you and your child/rens learning journey as I work .3 principal release alongside Trudy. I work Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and all day Wednesdays, and I invite you to come along and say hi, see what we are doing, and let me know about your desires for your children here at Tangimoana as we make this year one that rocks.
