How to get an A&M Student ID card
When you start at A&M, one of the first things you'll need to do is pick up an MyAggieCard student ID card. To pick up your student ID card, you'll need to go to the Student Business Services office in the General Services Complex, Suite 2801. To get to the General Services Complex, you can either drive, or take bus route 06 - 12th Man which will stop at the GSC. You will need a photo ID to pick it up.
More info is available through the Aggie Card Office.
Your student ID card is a multipurpose tool that you'll want to have on you at all times. With it, you'll have building access, gym access, and meal plans (optional for graduate students).
On the back of your student ID card are some critical phone numbers, in case of emergency, including:
University Police
Student Counseling Helpline
CarPool
Aggie Corps Escorts
IT Help Desk Central (Geosciences IT is also available on the 8th floor of O&M)
Traditions on Campus
Fish Camp/Grad Orientation Camp
Many freshmen undergraduate students attend Fish Camp, which is an week-long orientation to campus. There is an optional graduate student version called Grad Orientation Camp.
Century Tree
In the middle of Campus is a live oak tree that is more than 100 years old! It is a common site for proposals and weddings. Tradition says that if a couple walks under its branches, they will marry.
Reveille
Miss Rev is the official mascot of A&M and is known as the First Lady of Aggieland. Her handler is a student, and therefore she attends all of their classes and extra-curricular activities. If she barks in class, the class will end early.
Aggie Ring
The Aggie Ring is the most recognizable symbol of A&M -- graduate students are eligible for an Aggie Ring. For PhD students, they may receive an Aggie Ring once they pass their Preliminary Exams and Proposal defense. For MS students, they are eligible for an Aggie Ring once their coursework is completed.
Muster and Silver Taps
Every month, A&M honors students who have passed in a solemn ceremony on campus at Silver Taps. Similarly, every year on April 21st at Muster every Aggie worldwide who has passed in the past year is honored and in which family members, friends, and fellow Aggies answer "Here" to show that the Aggie is here in spirit. Every year Aggies worldwide travel to College Station for Muster.
