The team was proudly represented at SPIE Photonics West this year! Our attendees brought great energy as they showcased our latest biophotonics research, connected with leaders across the field, and explored cutting‑edge innovations. They returned inspired and ready to fuel the next wave of discoveries in the lab.
As the year comes to a close, we gathered to celebrate the incredible dedication and achievements of our Biophotonics team. From groundbreaking experiments to creative problem-solving, every contribution has helped push the boundaries of science and innovation. This holiday season, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for your passion, teamwork, and resilience. Here’s to an exciting year ahead—filled with light, ideas, and breakthroughs!
Thank you for making 2025 unforgettable!
We are proud to celebrate our postdoctoral researchers, Jennifer Soares, Carla Calçada, Natalia Inada, and Michelle Requena, for representing the Biophotonics Lab at the Innovation for Healthcare Access: From Global to Local Conference, held in Houston, TX. This event focused on advancing solutions to improve access to treatment for cancer and infectious diseases, especially in underserved communities worldwide. Our team contributed to discussions on how innovative technologies, such as light-based therapies, can help bridge global health gaps and bring cutting-edge care closer to those who need it most.
Together, we are committed to making healthcare innovation accessible for all.
Our Biophotonics team proudly attended the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Meeting, where our students presented their latest research through engaging poster sessions. It was an incredible opportunity to share ideas, connect with peers, and highlight how light-based technologies are shaping the future of biomedical engineering.

The Biophotonics group now has its own identity! The design created by Dr Pires and Victor Massoni was chosen by our team members to represent the group. Our new logo, featuring Biophotonics, the Texas A&M emblem, and a vibrant light spectrum, is now part of our templates and proudly displayed on our new T-shirts. Congratulations to Layla and Victor for creating a logo that truly represents our team!
Our team brought energy, creativity, and a healthy dose of competition to the LabLympics! From precision challenges to lighthearted games, this event celebrated collaboration and the joy of discovery. Science isn’t just about experiments—it’s about building connections and having fun along the way.
Congratulations to our champions: Fernanda, Iago, Kunal, and Natalia! Your skills and team spirit made this LabLympics unforgettable. Check out the highlights below!
