Pandemic Albums

By Morgan Sly

It might feel like there's not a lot going on in quarantine. But musical artists have been busy creating new songs and albums for us to enjoy while stuck at home. Here are some of my favorite pandemic albums, released from early 2020 to present day:

Punisher - Phoebe Bridgers

Punisher was released on June 17th, 2020. It is generally an indie album, but has different influences. Punisher is Bridgers’ sophomore album, coming after 2017’s Stranger in the Alps. My favorite song on the album is “Graceland Too”, a ballad about leaving home with someone you love. Some other standout tracks on this album are “Kyoto” and “I Know The End.”

Folklore - Taylor Swift

Folklore was released on July 24th, 2020. It marks Taylor’s second major genre shift, this time into Folk/Indie music. It is her 8th album, and is rooted in storytelling, shifting away from her more personal albums like Lover. My favorite track on this album is “hoax.” It has beautiful imagery and a lullabye-like tone to it. Other favorites on this album include “illicit affairs,” “seven,” and “my tears ricochet.”

Give Me a Minute- Lizzy McAlpine

Give Me a Minute was released on August 13th, 2020. It is an acoustic-indie album. It is McAlpine’s second album. My favorite track on this album is Pancakes For Dinner, with my favorite lyrics being “Oh, and to tell you is too scary/So I'll just say something else/And I wish that you could hear me/When I talk to myself”

Evermore- Taylor Swift

Evermore was released on December 11th, 2020. It is considered somewhat of a sister album to Folklore, with the same genre and theme. My favorite track on Evermore is currently “tolerate it,” but other favorites are “gold rush” and “ivy.”
