Connects our ākonga with the land through stories, history, rohe and tangata whenua in Mōhua
Embeds local tikanga and kawa of Mōhua manawhenua (Taranaki kawa) so that it’s real and embedded in learning
Provides a framework for rich learning experiences embedded in Te reo me ōna Tikanga Māori Is centred around our school values, Kia Ora Kid qualities and vision Is richly connected to the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Mārautanga ō Āotearoa
Ensures that there is a Te Ao Māori view in our relationships with, and connectedness to, the environment, nature and world.
He Tikanga: The kawa, tikanga, rituals and values of Manawhenua ki Mohua, Te Āo Māori and Takaka Primary School are considered when developing learning experiences for our tamariki
Arohatia Te Reo: A love of learning, acquiring and building on our Te Reo through experiential, oral and hands on learning, as well as pānui, tuhituhi and pāngarau. Our TPS value: Being open to learning (Kia Mataara) is developed through learning Te Reo in a safe environment where mistakes are viewed as opportunities to learn, and where the mana of the individual and collective is upheld.
Kaitiakitanga o Te Taiao: A commitment to kaitiakitanga; caring for the land and our environment, and building learning experiences that connect us to the land, and develop an ongoing sense of individual and collective responsibility to being kaitiaki of our environment.
Whānaungātanga: An understanding of the interconnected nature of people, places and our learning. Recognising and adhering to the strategies of ako, tuakana-teina and the principles of Tataiako and culturally responsive practice (RbL) in our teaching and learning planning.
Bilingual education is most effective when families, the school, and the wider community see it as good for students to learn a second language and to become fluent in two languages.
Research shows that additive approaches are very effective educationally and result in students becoming bilingual as well as bi-literate – being able to read and write in two languages.
