Te Whanau Moana Me Te Rorohuri have decided to take action against the current unsustainable management system of our rohre.
This means no taking of shellfish, fish, kaimoana, seaweed etc.
If we don't act fast to curb the current rate that kaimoana is being pillaged, our tamariki and mokopuna will not have the satisfaction of being able to enjoy this natural taonga in the future.
Our aim is to
. Bring back the balance to our Moana
.Restore the depleted area
.Restore the TAPU, restore the MANA
.Implement a sustainability plan for the future generations
Hinemoana and Tangaroa look out over the moana,
there domain.
There korowai is the swells, currents and tide and
contained within this are fish and the many sea creatures, depicted by Unahi.
At the bottom of Hinemoana the swell breaks into Merita, at the bottom of Tangaroa is Omahuri.
Te Parata and Kahutianui face inland. It is their descendents, Te Whanau Moana and Te Rorohuri that hold Mana wenua over this rohe.
Te Parata Ta -moko is the Pakaurua, kaitiaki of Ngati Kahu, which abound in the surrounding waters.
His Kakahu is a Pake or rain cape on top of a Kaitaka, both are bordered with the Kaokao design in reference to enforcing the Rahui in all conditions.
The adze pattern known as Ngaotu on his Kaitaka refers to Parata being the Kaihautu of the Mamaru.
Kahutianui Ta-moko is the Wheke in reference to Maunga Puwheke seen from the top of Maitai.
Her Kaitaka is bordered by the Tukutuku pattern Patiki. This design refers to the cluster of stars with the same name and when they appear it was time to harvest the flounder.
