This Pou was started in 2013 by the year 10 carving class.
The Pou Herewaka is a representation of the students of Taipa, under the Korowai of 'Te Hiku o te Ika' the tail of the fish, and the different Iwi they hail from.
Herewaka is the correct name of Taipa Beach and is the place where the tupuna tied up there waka.

On the back of the head of the Tauihu is a Pakaurua or stingray, a kaitiaki of Tokerau Moana. The design was done to represent Taipa Area School by an ex student and is now the tohu for our house groups.
