This emblem is symbolic of our school proverb 'By Perseverance Achieve'
It is the waka Mamaru, captained by Parata, its huge sails filled with wind as it slices through the waves just before making landing at Otako.
The Tauihu is the Kahu, the kaitiaki of the Mamaru. Tau Rangatira is the name of the landing place of this kaitiaki, it is the hill between Otako and Herewaka (Taipa) .
The Mamaru is riding the waves, Ngaru-nui, Ngaru-roa and Ngaru-paewhenua. These are part of the Pakaurua, the house groups tohu of Manaakitanga, Painga and Mahitahi ( You only see half, the rest of this Tohu is unseen as a reflection in the moana) this connecting our school values to our proverb.
