Assignment 1

This will cover term one and two and will contain two assessment standards

Achievement Standard 91313 version 2 Printmaking

Use drawing methods to apply knowledge of conventions appropriate to printmaking

Achievement Standard 91318 version 2 Printmaking

Develop ideas in a related series of drawings appropriate to established printmaking practice

They will both be worked on at the same time.

Overview

The nature of level 2 develops from levels 1. Continuing to develop students skill at

determining their own thematic, technical, pictorial, and conceptual directions. This involves

the identification of a particular approach to picture making, specific artist models and thematic concerns.

This sequence of tasks integrates the research, drawing and developmental stages of the

investigation and provides the foundation and initial work upon which the folio (2.4) is based.

Task One - Identify a personal proposition and background research

One week

Outcome: Topic Proposal sheet, 3xA3 artist and artworks interests pages - Supporting 2.3

Find at least 50 images of artworks and artists that you find interesting either for subject matter, methodology, or stylistically. Collect these in a google doc and share it with the teacher. This is reference for ideas of art you like.

Select a theme or topic that interests you. This may be a visual subject such as

landscape, portrait, still life, etc or something more specific such as horses, water, trees,

flowers, patterns, a particular building, collection of memorabilia, etc. Or you may start

with a more abstract concern such as war, conservation, surveillance, cyberspace, mental health, desire, speed, mutation, etc.

Your topic will evolve during the year but you will need to choose carefully as starting

over part way through the year is not possible.

The first print

submitted end of week 4

Once you have chosen the beginning point for your theme you need to get some rough ideas down. These can be done either by doing small fast etchings or by doing a series of drawings to show your planning for a more major print. If you are planning a more major print you will need to submit part of your work as a print on 1st submission day.

The second print

You have probably learnt a lot about what works and what doesn't in the making of your first print. so have another go with etching using another idea within your theme or another part of your larger work.

The Artist model

A major part of senior art is using artist models to inform and develop your art practice. to do this you will need to choose some artist models that you think you can use ides and styles from in your own work.
