The nature of level 2 develops from levels 1. Continuing to develop students skill at
determining their own thematic, technical, pictorial, and conceptual directions. This involves
the identification of a particular approach to picture making, specific artist models and thematic concerns.
This sequence of tasks integrates the research, drawing and developmental stages of the
investigation and provides the foundation and initial work upon which the folio (2.4) is based.

Realistic application of paint or pencil
To get back into the rhythm of working and completing a piece of work. use your subject or theme to complete a realistic work in either pencil or paint. This can be either from observation or from using found images. Put a personal spin on it if you can.
Identify Artists that relate to your chosen theme or style (supports 2.3)
Look through books and internet to identify AT LEAST 12 artists that relate to your
chosen theme or style. Lists of artists are available on the NZQA subject page at:

Collect work by these artists and add them to your collection of artwork. Make quick notes about artist. Make sure you state what you are looking at in the artists work. Are you choosing it for style, method, subject matter, or another reason?
