Using cutting-edge projection technology and ultra-high-resolution imagery sourced directly from the Vatican archives, this is more than a Michelangelo exhibition. It transforms the art of the Sistine Chapel into a breathtaking art exhibition Sydney has never seen before.
For the first time ever, visitors will step inside a purpose-built structure that evokes the scale, atmosphere and splendour of the Sistine Chapel, offering a profound encounter with the art, history and imagination of the Renaissance. Located near St Mary’s Cathedral and arriving during the cultural energy of Vivid Sydney, the Sistine Chapel Exhibition Sydney offers a rare opportunity to experience Michelangelo’s masterpiece in an entirely new way.

An opportunity to consider how art offers a response to fundamental questions about existence through this unique Sistine Chapel immersive experience
Experience: Visitors will be welcomed by a Docent, taken through the Introductory Gallery and then experience the beauty of a Sistine Chapel unfold via a first-of-it's kind Projection Chamber. The experience is 60mins in duration in total and will include the two key areas below, with an opportunity to purchase memorability if desired at the end of the Exhibition.
The Introductory Gallery:
An introductory gallery provides an informative journey through the history, architecture and purpose of the Sistine Chapel, from its construction in the 15th century to its role in papal conclaves and its enduring importance as one of the world’s most famous works of art.
Visitors discover the global cultural significance of the Sistine Chapel and the Renaissance world that shaped it: the artistic genius of Michelangelo, the masters who painted its frescoes, and the stories depicted across the chapel’s ceiling, walls and the iconic Last Judgement. This gallery introduces the vision behind the groundbreaking Michelangelo exhibition and prepares visitors for the immersive experience ahead.
The Immersive Projection Chamber:
The centrepiece of the Sistine Chapel Exhibition Sydney is a spectacular immersive experience that recreates the interior of the Sistine Chapel using monumental projection. Through ultra-high-resolution images from the Vatican Museums’ archives, visitors can explore details of Michelangelo’s work rarely visible to the naked eye -brushstrokes, expressions, colour and narrative – accompanied by curated audio and storytelling.
