The Minnesota State Youth EMS Competition is an annual event run for high school EMS students. The competition is considered Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) level but students may be in EMR or EMT classes. The competition usually takes place on a Saturday at the end of February.
It is often referred to as OEC State since it is run by the various Opportunities in Emergency Care (OEC) programs. OEC programs exist in Burnsville, Forest Lake, Osseo, Spring Lake Park, and SWMetro school districts. Other high school EMS programs and explorer posts are also usually invited.
The competition is for teams of 4 to complete three scenarios and take a multiple-choice test. Points are combined from the tests and scenarios to determine the winners. Awards are also given for the most academic teams and individuals as well as the most professional team.
