peer counselors listen - peer counselors understand - peer counselors do not judge - peer counselors are your advocate
Facilitate student led support groups and provide one to one student support.
Teach healthy coping mechanisms to students and provide information on mental health resources
Peer counselors are committed to keeping the information you share confidential. However, if a student's safety is at risk we must report to an adult supervisor immediately in order to provide the student with the professional help and services needed. If you or someone you know is at risk of harming themselves, someone else, or they are being harmed by another, please be advised that help outside of the peer counseling program is required.
We want all of our students at BVH to feel valued, appreciated, and free to be who they are at school, regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, physical or mental ability, citizenship, or any other aspect which makes them unique.
Schools and programs that are diverse in perspective are proven to be better learning communities. More importantly, creating an environment where everyone, from any background, can do their best is the right thing to do.
In Peer Counseling we believe diversity is essential and we celebrate a holistic approach. We’re always growing and improving our program and providing tools to help Peer Counselors manage their own development. We foster both a top-down and grassroots approach. We strive to create a place where everyone feels empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to school.
