It is important that all students are confident that they can make an effective, purposeful start to their A level courses in September 2026. All departments have been asked to outline preparatory work that students should complete over the summer.
You will need to be ready for 2 things before coming in September. First is the theory and Second is the coding skills.
Theory
Please download the GCSE specification J277 from OCR for more details.

For those students who did not do GCSE Computing and decided to take it at A level, they need to make sure that they understand as much theory as possible in the summer holiday by watching Craig N Dave YouTube Channel.

Coding Skills
As for the programming, you can learn the basic knowledge from these interactive websites in your own time.
To be able to take A level Computing, you must have knowledge of at least 2 different programming languages. If you have done some of it before, improve the skill to the next level or try to learn a new language. E.g. If you know the basic Python, try to learn with GUI or link with SQL. If you know basic HTML, learn to link with CSS and JavaScript.
Recommended languages to learn are Python 3, VB.NET, C#, C++, Java, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP.
You will need to use one or more of these languages to create your programming project. So the more experience you are in coding, the easier will be for you. If you have any question, please email to the HoD Mr Win at kwin@swbgs.com
