"A-level art represents a substantial step up from GCSE, in terms of both quality and quantity of work. Crucially, in contrast to GCSE, we expect students to explore greater meaning and purpose behind the work they create, stepping away from the more superficial and visually focused nature of GCSE portfolio work (although technique and aesthetic are still very important to creating effective work).Â
To help prepare you for A-level, and to better understand the meaning and purpose behind artworks, we would like you to work through the attached Powerpoint. There is no expectation for you to carry out practical work during the summer, as a range of core techniques will be revisited, extended and introduced when the course begins.
