Once again, the students at Swan River School have gone above and beyond. Eighth grader Vin has won second and third in two different state trap shooting competitions. Seventh grader Raquel had a black belt test on the 6th of November, and sixth grader Millie has won 2nd place in a drawing competition.
Raquel has recently had a pretest for Taekwondo on October 16th, which she passed. The test consisted of 50 pushups, 150 sit ups, Juto (which is flipping and tripping people, she says) and self defense moves. It also included running 2 miles in under 20 minutes, which she says by far was the hardest and her moves look as real as possible, otherwise she would fail.
Raquel’s final test included everything from the first test, with added cardio, and takes 6-7 hours. Because of its length she missed school. It was definitely worth it, since she passed her test on November 6. Raquel has gone through many tests to get to where she is today, and many belts “Six years . . . and lots of training,” she says.
Vin participated in the two shotgun competitions, the Sub Junior Singles and the Sub Junior Handicap. The Sub Junior Singles is 15 yards and the Handicap is 19 to 20. He earned second place in the Sub Junior singles, and third in Sub Juniors Handicap. When I asked him if he worked to get this and he said, “Oh yea, all Summer. Every Thursday.”
Millie has won second place in the 2020 Aviation Awareness Art Contest, Category 1. Her art consisted of a flaming forest with a silhouetted plane and a firemen holding an axe. The flames are reflected in a small pond. She was awarded with a golden plane trophy on June 03, 2020.
