Our very own Swan River cheerleaders cheer the best into you. They try extra hard to perfect their cheers to do their job as cheerleaders. During October through December, our cheerleaders make our school proud during the boys basketball season. Our cheerleaders cheer at our very own Swan River gym, where our boys basketball team plays.
The cheerleaders hype up our team and school with encouragement, and put a pep in your step. Most cheerleaders decided to cheer because it looked fun and they knew they would enjoy it. As a cheerleader myself, I want to look like I am having fun, and that is exactly what we do. Our cheerleaders this year are amazing and go above and beyond trying to do their best.
I went around and asked a few of our very own cheerleaders some questions about their cheer experience, and here are their responses:
“My favorite part is the exercises we do at practice, and the sparkly pom-poms,” -fifth grader, Zoey
“I wouldn’t change anything about it,” seventh grader, Tatum
“I am definitely going to try out in high school,” eighth grader, Sophie
“I have never done anything extracurricular before, and cheerleading was a blast!” sixth grader, Ada
“I am going to do this next year for sure!” fifth grader, Naomi
I went around and asked 7 of our lovely cheerleaders to rate their cheerleading experience 1-10. Six out of seven said 10. We love our SRS Cheerleaders!
Middle school football was in full blast this fall. The season started in August, and ended in October. Football, like every year, was played with Bigfork Middle School. Games mainly stayed in our hometown of Kalispell, but a few were played in surrounding areas such as Evergreen and Eureka.
Coach Elwell, Coach Schmidt, and Coach Macalister all coached this years’ season.
Aidan, a 7th grader who played this year, states that he liked playing. “My favorite part was playing tight end and linebacker,” which are both positions on the field. He also says he played many positions, such as linemen, linebacker, center, and many more.
The team played hard and had lots of fun. All in all, it sounds like this was a great season of football.
The 2020 Basketball season in the Flathead Valley has begun, and the Swan River teams have continued to put forth astonishing effort, despite the seventh and eighth team losing a star player and the fifth and sixth having to quarantine.
The players work hard at both practices and games, taking up all but three days of their week. Still, most every player agrees the season has been a great source of fun. Tournaments start on the week of December 6th, where our SRS boys will fight for first place.
"Basketball is fun and takes my mind off of things,” says eighth grader, Kai.
Basketball season started in early October and will end in early December.
