This school year, SRS staff and students are doing absolutely everything they can to prevent cases of COVID-19 from spreading throughout the school. Being sanitary is the number one priority.
Some of the precautionary measures the rural school is taking include classes eating lunch in their homerooms, sectioning off the individual classes as much as possible, no assemblies, and having different areas for each class at recess. Of course, masks are required, and hand washing and sanitizing are frequent.
School Principal, Mr. Bunker states this about what happens when the school contracts a case: "We are notified by the health department. We have had only two cases so far. When this happens, the school asks that the student not return to school until cleared medically. We also send out communication to staff and families if we do have a positive case. Obviously, anyone who was in close contact is asked to quarantine, and we offer remote learning to those students."

“I really like teaching the younger kids,” Quinn said when interviewed. Then, when asked about why she chose first grade she replied, “I got my degree for K-8 teaching, and really got into teaching elementary grades.”

Then, the position was changed to a long term substitute for third grade; but she finally got the job as the full time third grade teacher.
“I love teaching third grade,” Mrs. Stahlberg answered when interviewed.
Mrs. Stahlberg loves teaching so much that she thinks that she will be here for several years. Mrs. Stahlberg is a very happy teacher.
In the 2020 school year Swan River School gained a new network administrator for technology in the building. Mr. Estes went to college at Devry University, located in Phoenix AZ. He came to Swan because he knew it was a quality place to work, and a school that really cares about their students. Estes’s kids even attended Swan River, and it is an accomplishment for him to be a part of the Swan River family.
Estes' cousin talked him into going to Devry College because his dad thought he should try something different than the logging industry. He took a job maintaining ATMs, which helped propel him into technology. Being a tech guy has taught Estes how to read people. Technology is advancing at a spectacular rate, and Estes said it's hard to keep up with all the new tech, but he is trying his best to figure it out.
Estes loved to play football. In fact, he accomplished many goals in his life, including the state championship his senior year. He and his team got a motion to recognize their accomplishment at the Washington State Legislature. He also graduated college on the President's List. Estes loves to be outside; he goes rafting, snowboarding, and he does play some sports. Estes is also the best step-dad in the world, he loves his kids so much.
