Chromebook 1:1 Program Overview
All SPS students enrolled in grades 3-12 are issued a Chromebook to use during the school year.
Grades 3-8
Students in grades 3 through 8 are issued Chromebooks for their exclusive use during the school day. These devices remain at school.
Families of students enrolled in grades 5-8 may request a take-home device for academic use. To request a device, please complete this form.
Grades 9-12
Students in grades 9 through 12 are assigned a Chromebook upon entering 9th grade or enrolling in Swampscott Public Schools.
Students keep their assigned Chromebook until they matriculate or withdraw from Swampscott Public Schools.
Students in grades 9-12 are responsible for keeping the device with them in good working order until they graduate, including over the summer.
Chromebook Policies & Forms
Responsible Use Policy
Before a Chromebook or device is issued, students and their guardians are expected to sign and acknowledge the Responsible Use Policy and the District Student Handbook to verify their understanding and to abide by the policies, agreements, and procedures.
Chromebook Agreement Form
Students in grades 9-12 and their guardians are expected to sign the Chromebook Agreement Form to verify their understanding that the Chromebook and charger are on loan and remain the property of Swampscott Public Schools.
SHS students who opt not to submit a Chromebook Agreement Form will not be issued a device.
SHS students who opt not to submit a Chromebook Agreement Form may borrow a daily loaner device from the library and return it at the end of the school day.
Content Filtering
In order to help keep students safe online, district-owned Chromebooks are monitored and filtered by an online content monitoring and filtering tool called GoGuardian. Learn more about the district's filtering software and tools here.
Chromebook Care
Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for the general care of Chromebooks and devices. If a device is damaged, broken, or not functioning properly, students should report the issue to Technology Department immediately.
Chromebook General Care
Keep the following tips in mind when using your Chromebook:
Keep the device away from foods and liquids.
Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the device at any time; all repairs will go through school technology support personnel
Do not lean or put pressure on the top of the Chromebook when it is closed.
Do not throw Chromebook on the ground, even if in a padded backpack.
Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (pens or pencils).
