This demanding and academically rigorous course allows students to develop a range of vital skills and knowledge that will be beneficial for further study or in the workplace. This course promotes independence and curiosity, as well as incorporating opportunities to improve reading, writing and oracy skills. Whilst studying English Literature, students will read, investigate and critique a wide range of literature from across the globe. They will be asked to explore the context of a range of writing, as well as being expected to debate issues that are central the works in question.
This course is perfect for students who have a love of reading and literature, as well as students who enjoy exploring language and grappling with important social and moral issues.
Details
Students will study thirteen texts across two years including: texts in translation, a detailed study of modern writing, texts representative of the tragic genre, and a choice of their own texts. Students will explore prose, poetry and drama, as well as relevant critical theory
