Course Structure
This course consists of eight different units for a diploma and 4 for extended certificate. Three of the units are externally assessed examinations where you will have an opportunity to resit each examination once. The examination windows for these units are January and June of each academic year. The remaining five units are coursework based and include two mandatory unit and a further two optional units. These are usually: Unit 27 Recruitment and Selection Unit 17 Digital marketing.
Units of Study
Unit 1: Exploring Business. In this introductory unit, students study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive.
Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign. Students will gain skills relating to, and an understanding of, how a marketing campaign is developed
Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance. Students study the purpose and importance of personal and business finance. They will develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information.
Unit 4 Managing an Event. Students will work as part of a small group to plan, coordinate and manage a business or social enterprise event and evaluate the skills gained.
Unit 5 International Business. Students study how UK businesses develop strategies to trade globally. Students will also consider the factors that influence the implementation of these strategies.
Unit 6 Principles of Business Management. This unit enables students to understand how the role of management and leadership in the workplace contributes towards business success .
Progression and career opportunities
Future careers include accounting, banking, insurance, human resources, marketing and sales. Students can go on to study business management, human resources, International business or marketing at university. Business is a broad subject that can mix with a combination of any other vocational or academic courses.
Entry Requirements
For level 3 BTEC you will need 5 GCSE grade 4 and above (Including Maths and English)
