Information for Marching Band State Quarterfinals

Volunteer Signups for SCMB State Quarterfinals 

Our State Week Timeline

​Wednesday, October 21

• 5:00pm - 8:00pm - FINAL REHEARSAL!!​

Thursday, October 22

• 3:00 p.m. – Truck load

Friday, October 23 – State Quarterfinals

• 7:00 a.m. – Student drop-off at SCHS

• 7:30 a.m. – Depart SCHS

• 9:30 a.m. – Estimated arrival at the USAFA security checkpoint

  • Director friends from around the state have told me that security usually takes about 15 minutes, though 45 minutes is not unusual.

  • Hopefully, we clear security quickly enough to watch some 5A bands before our performance!

• 11:45 a.m. – Light lunch

• 12:45 p.m. – Uniforms on and prepare for warmup

• 1:35–2:35 p.m. – Percussion warmup

• 1:55–2:25 p.m. – Color Guard and body warmup

• 2:30–3:00 p.m. – Full-band warmup

• 3:15 p.m. – SCMB performs at State!

• 5:20 p.m. – Awards and score announcements

• 5:45 p.m. – Make sandwiches for the bus ride home

• 8:00 p.m. – Estimated arrival at SCHS

What happens after we get home?

• If we advance to Semifinals: Everyone heads home and gets to bed! Saturday will be an early morning.

• If we don't advance: Everyone helps unload the truck, and we celebrate an incredible season!

The Exciting Possibility: Saturday Semifinals!

Remember, we're only 1.15 points away from the current 12th-place position. If we earn a spot in the top 12, we'll return to USAFA on Saturday for Semifinals!

Our Saturday schedule depends on our Quarterfinals placement. Here is the tentative plan for either possibility.

Saturday, October 24 – If We Advance

• 6:00 a.m. – Student drop-off at SCHS

• 6:30 a.m. – Depart SCHS

• 8:30 a.m. – Estimated arrival at the USAFA security checkpoint

  • Unload equipment and prepare for the day.

Scenario 1: SCMB finishes 5th in Quarterfinals

• 10:15 a.m. – Uniforms on and prepare for warmup

• 10:50–11:50 a.m. – Percussion warmup

• 11:10–11:40 a.m. – Color Guard and body warmup

• 11:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m. – Full-band warmup

• 12:30 p.m. – Semifinals performance

• Lunch/dinner following the performance

• Load the truck immediately after eating

Scenario 2: SCMB finishes 6th in Quarterfinals

• 10:50 a.m. – Uniforms on

• 11:20 a.m.–12:20 p.m. – Percussion warmup

• 11:40 a.m.–12:10 p.m. – Color Guard and body warmup

• 12:15–12:45 p.m. – Full-band warmup

• 1:00 p.m. – Semifinals performance

• Lunch/dinner following the performance

• Load the truck immediately after eating

• 4:00 p.m. – Awards

  • The top eight 4A/5A bands advance to Finals, regardless of classification.

• 5:00 p.m. – Target departure from USAFA for Longmont

• 7:00 p.m. – Estimated arrival at SCHS and truck unload

Please remember that Saturday's schedule is tentative and depends entirely on Friday's results and our assigned performance time.

The signup sheet will list many jobs that need to be covered, but please feel free to sign up for as many or as few slots as work for your schedule. Every bit of help makes a difference!

This is the final competition weekend for our 2026 program, Water Lilies. These last performances are special. After months of hard work, long rehearsals, and shared experiences, emotions are always running high as we bring a show to its conclusion.

Come be part of the excitement, support our amazing kids, and help us make these final performances something they will remember for years to come!

Daily Essentials We have an ongoing need for "perishables" that keep our instruments running smoothly, including:

• Fresh drum heads, sticks and mallets

• Reeds, valve oil, and cleaning supplies

The 2026 Sound System Initiative Our current sound system has served us since 2015, but it has reached the end of its life. With blown tweeters and failing mixer channels, it’s time for an upgrade.

We are currently raising funds for a versatile, professional-grade system that will serve:

• Marching Band: Providing reliable, high-fidelity sound on the field.

• School of Rock: Giving our rock ensembles the power they need for public gigs.

• Theater & Musical: Expanding our wireless capabilities from 19 to 27 mics, ensuring every lead and ensemble member is heard.

We are filled with gratitude for all the parents who have dedicated their time and effort to support our band. Your hard work makes an incredible difference, and we couldn't do this without you.

  1. This year alone, our band has already received over $60,000 from SCOPA Bingo, which has been crucial for everything from equipment to tuition assistance.

• Equipment Truck Drivers: Thad Johnson, Teresa Young, Oscar Hernandez Senior and Chris McMurtry.

• Senior Banner Creators: Becca Johnston and Matt Bobby.

• Uniform Coordinators: Shelly Olivier, Becca Johnston and Luz Kubetzko.

• Competition Meal Coordinators: Becca Johnston, Tom and Ellie Cecil, Vince and Joy Vigil.  

And finally, to the many parents who have volunteered at our Bingo sessions—thank you. Funds from Bingo are the only source of funds for the operational costs of our Marching Band which are close to $100,000!!

Marching Band is a physically active, after-school program running July through December, with the busiest schedule during competition season through October. Participation is open to students enrolled in Concert or Symphonic Band. Choir and Orchestra students may participate in the front ensemble percussion or Color Guard.

Wind instrument players need to play a wind instrument in one of the following band classes: Concert Band, Symphonic Band.

Orchestra and Choir Students may talk with Mr. Legg about playing in the pit percussion section or can join the Color Guard
