Robotics is a sport for the mind; it blends applied physics, mathematics, programming, prototyping and design, integrated problem solving, teamwork and leadership. Students who are successful in robotics must work well under pressure and work well with others.
An informational meeting for prospective students and families will be held in the spring. After attending the meeting, students may apply online to the Rattler Robotics Club in May for the following school year. As with any team, space and resources are limited with a growing number of students who wish to participate.
While we do not require any prior robotics knowledge, a willingness to learn and a serious commitment from students is required. Our season runs from September through March. Teams advancing to the State Championship will continue meeting through March or advancing to the World Championships will have their season extended through May.
Students are expected to attend the majority of practices held two mornings before school each week on Tuesday and Thursdays. Many teams choose to commit additional time building their robot throughout the school year. Regional tournaments are held throughout the district and state on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Team members are required to be in attendance at the competitions, students/families are responsible for travel to and from all events and all food expenses. Not every team will attend every competition; this determination will be made based on the team’s progress and readiness.
