How do I use Schoology Lockdown Browser?
Setting up an assignment with Schoology Lockdown Browser takes just a few extra clicks! See the video above, or the written instructions on the right.
Note: if you have linked classes, you will need to complete these steps for each class.
It's important to make sure that students can access the accommodations they need when taking a test within Schoology Lockdown Browser. Here's how to make sure they can access Text to Speech and Speech to Text.
TEXT TO SPEECH
Click on the assessment.
Choose Setup
Scroll down to Assessment Toolbar
Click "YES" on "Students can use Speech to text..."
SPEECH TO TEXT
Students must activate Speech to Text on their device BEFORE they open the test in Lockdown Browser.
On their device, students go to Settings > Accessibility > Speech
Toggle on Voice Access
Follow the prompts to set it up.
After the exam is over, go back to Settings > Accessibility > Speech to toggle it off.
Important Tips
The first time you use Schoology Lockdown Browser with a class, make sure it's a low stakes assignment. This will help avoid any confusion and stress if a student's device has a glitch that can't be worked through in the moment.
If a student is using a personal device (rather than a district device) inform them that they will have to either download the program to their personal device, or they will need to bring their district device to school on test days.
Inform the students ahead of time- some have restrictions on their personal devices that will not allow them to install a program without a parent passcode.

If a student has an error that says Screencastfy is preventing Schoology Lockdown Browser from working, have them remove the Screencastify extension from their browser, restart, and try again.
When setting up your assessment, choose "Lock Students into the Browser until the Exam is Complete" and create a password.
Don't give students the password until you can see that they are done with the exam. These steps will prevent students from accidentally clicking out of the exam (and therefore locking themselves out) before they are finished.
