Hi, my name is Mrs. Balk! I am your high school counselor. I can assist with student success at Southeast Valley High School in many ways. My main role revolves around assisting students in achieving academic success, social emotional well being and college and career readiness.

Mission:

The mission of SVHS counseling program is to provide all students with a comprehensive counseling program that encourages the highest level of student achievement through their growth and development in academic, career and personal/social domains. In partnership with teachers, administrators, parents and a caring community, the school counselor will help all students to be successful lifelong learners and problem solvers.

Vision:

The vision of the Southeast Valley School Counseling Program is for every student to acquire the academic, career, and personal/social skills to be successful students and become responsible, accountable, and productive citizens.

Beliefs

  • The Southeast Valley School Counseling Program is a critical component within the school system as an advocate for students’ needs and is integral to the academic, personal/social, and career development and progress of each student

  • The Southeast Valley School Counseling Program helps build a positive school environment by encouraging collaboration among counselors, teachers, administrators, parents and the community to further student achievement

  • The Southeast Valley School Counseling Program utilizes the Iowa School Counseling Standards which align with the American School Counselor Association Model to provide an ethically sound and cohesive counseling program

  • The Southeast Valley comprehensive School Counseling Program is continuously refined and improved through systematic review and evaluation of data.
