Expectations
Junior Choir (7-8) Expectations
Attend all classes and be on time.
Read and study assignments prior to class.
Participate in class discussions and activities. (Quality participation is essential as is displaying respect toward classmates.)
Complete and submit all assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams as scheduled.
Concert Choir (9-12) Expectations
Attend all rehearsals and lessons and be on time.
Be actively engaged and singing throughout the rehearsal. Singing is defined as making musical sounds with your voice. Whispering and/or Lip syncing quietly does NOT count!
Read and study any given assignments prior to class.
Participate in class discussions and activities. (Quality participation is essential as is displaying respect toward classmates.)
Complete and submit all assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams as scheduled.
Required Materials
Bring to each class session:
½” or 1” black binder or sturdy black folder
Sharpened pencils (two or three)
Some loose leaf paper in your binder
Any homework that is due

Student Learning Objectives
Intro to Theater (MVCC TH 193)
Demonstrate understanding of the differences between drama and theater
Explain the varied processes involved in the creation of a production
Recognize the varieties of theater experience in an historical context
See and critique a theater production outside of class and take guided tours of local theaters.
Recognize the components of a standard playhouse, including the various parts of the stage and their relation to blocking
Experience the steps necessary to transfer the written words of a script into actual performance
Recognize current trends in theater
Music Appreciation (MVCC HU 186)
Identify major musical styles
Relate the works of music to their cultural background and to a more global perspective.
Recognize and identify major musical compositions of each style or period
Demonstrate writing and verbal skills to clearly express ideas about music using musical terms
Utilize reading comprehension skills and critical thinking to analyze music from a variety of backgrounds and styles
Recognize and identify musical examples outside the western tradition
Music Theory I (MVCC HU 183)
Demonstrate music theory proficiency with regards to analysis and composition.
Through ear training, identify chord quality, chord structure, and specific intervals.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic elements of music such as pulse, meter, enharmonics, notation, scales, key, pitch, intervals, triads, modes, and single line melodies.
Analyze basic harmony within a musical passage by identifying chord structures, figured bass, and general notation.
Display understanding through synthesis of chorale style part writing.
Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in attendance, class conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
