Choral Goals
Students will learn to be confident in their singing voice, and work to demonstrate proper vocal techniques.
Students will be able to read music, including note reading, rhythms, key and time signatures, etc.
Students will be exposed to choral elements, such as ensemble singing, blend, and vocal techniques.
Students will sing and perform a variety of music in both formal and informal situations, both individually and in an ensemble.
Students will grow a love and appreciation for music and its influence in society.

Courses
Intro to Theater (MVCC TH 193)
This course introduces the foundations of theater art. Emphasis is placed on the theatrical production process and acting. Topics include theater spaces, directing, acting and improvisation, scenic design and professional work opportunities. Theater experiences from the Greek festival theater to the present are discussed.
Music Appreciation (MVCC HU 186)
This course develops musical perception, understanding, and appreciation. It is appropriate for those with no formal musical training. This course provides an introduction to musical styles and forms through listening. It is based on the premise that repeated listening leads to a greater understanding and a more rewarding experience of music. Through use of the listening charts in the text, discussion in class, and additional readings, students will develop a deeper appreciation and awareness of the similarities and differences that make-up the music of our cultural identity both locally and globally.
Music Theory I (MVCC HU 183)
This course develops musical perception, understanding, and appreciation. It is appropriate for those with no formal musical training. This course provides a comprehensive look at Western Tonal Harmonies (the basis of European, Anglo-American, and many World Music styles). Throughout this semester we will explore the roots of Tonal Harmony and work to gain a working knowing of musical analysis and composition.
