During school hours prescription drugs shall be stored and taken only in the nurse’s office for student safety.
All prescription medications sent to school must be in the original container labeled with the correct medication, name, dose, time, and date.
Controlled medications must be brought to the nurse’s office by a responsible adult and NOT sent with the child.
Parents/guardians must sign a permission form for the nurse to administer medication in school. Some medications will also require an action plan from the ordering physician.
The school nurse will keep a record of all medications given.
Non-prescription medication will be administered only after receiving signed consent by parents/guardians. The consent form lists medications provided by the nurse.
Parents should send medications from home for frequent problems (migraines, menstrual cramps, etc.)
